Andrew Duthie obtained a Ph.D in synthetic organometallic chemistry from Deakin University, receiving the Rex Williamson award for best doctoral student in chemistry. His extensive research output includes over 150 peer-reviewed publications.

He started at Shell Australia in 2007, providing technical and application support for Shell’s global portfolio of ShellSol diluents used for metal solvent extraction. In 2011 he received Shell’s Downstream Australia Vice President’s award for solvent manufacturing process improvements.

Since becoming Viva Energy Australia in 2014, Andrew has held the position of Chemicals Technical Manager, which includes overseeing product quality and customer support for a range of hydrocarbon solvents manufactured at the Geelong refinery and imported. These solvents are used in a diverse array of applications, including the extraction of metals, pharmaceuticals and vegetable oils.
