Alexandre Chagnes
University of Lorraine, France
Prof. Alexandre Chagnes is a Full Professor at Université de Lorraine specializing in hydrometallurgy and metal recovery. After early research in lithium-ion battery electrochemistry (France) and electrocatalysis (Canada), he focused on hydrometallurgical processes from 2005 to 2016 at Chimie ParisTech. He directed the French network on extractive metallurgy (Promethee, 2014–2020) and served as Scientific Director of LabEx RESSOURCES21 (2016–2024). Currently, he leads a major research program on circular economy for the energy and digital transitions, uniting 14 labs. He co-founded the start-up WEEEMET to recycle metals from electronic waste and is active in developing flowsheets for lithium-ion battery recycling. His work, supported by industrial and governmental partners, aims to improve and innovate metal recovery from primary and secondary resources. Prof. Chagnes has authored 178 papers, 7 books, 15 chapters, holds 3 patents, and has given 200 scientific talks in fields including electrochemistry, thermodynamics, and separation science.
